Fireproofing

Fireproofing is the most common and cost-effective way to protect the structural integrity of a building during a fire.  Proper fireproofing applications insulate and delay the failure of steel and concrete structures when exposed to the high temperature of a fire.  CFA utilizes a variety of products that exceed fire protection specifications for commercial structures and protect the lives and property of their inhabitants.

Spray Applied Fireproofing

Fireproofing protects the structural integrity of a building in the event of a fire, allowing inhabitants time to safely escape and slowing the spread of the fire.  The most common fireproofing material is spray applied fireproofing.  Spray applied fireproofing covers all parts of a structure with a uniform coating and is valued for being both cost effective and quick to apply.

Spray applied fireproofing is classified according to density and usage:

  • Standard Density Fireproofing: Used primarily on internal areas not exposed to view.

  • Medium Density Fireproofing: Typically applied to exposed surfaces that are in contact with people on a regular basis.

  • High Density Fireproofing: Often applied on exterior surfaces that are exposed to weather and varying environmental conditions.

Intumescent Fireproofing

Intumescent fireproofing is an attractive way to firestop a variety of building materials including steel and wood, allowing them to meet fire code while maintaining aesthetic appeal.  Intumescent paints come in a wide variety of colors and finishes, which combined with proper installation techniques provide resistance to high temperature while maintaining the aesthetic value of exposed steel and structural elements.  In addition, these coatings are easy to clean and maintain and are both indoor and outdoor friendly.

Rigid Board Fireproofing

Rigid board fireproofing is an alternative to spray applied fireproofing that works well in any temperature and condition when traditional forms of fireproofing are not a good option.  Rigid board is ideal for roof decks because it has minimal structural weight, and no surface preparation or liquids are required in the installation.  In addition, there is no temperature limitation to the installation and besides roof decks it can be used on beams and joists.
